Davenport - The Quad City Riverhawks ranked #9 in the ABA Power Rankings hosted their first playoff game in their inaugural season against the # 17 ranked Sauk Valley Rollers. The Riverhawks ended their first playoff home game on a good note defeating Sauk Valley 100-86.
The Rollers outscored the Riverhawks 21-12 in the second quarter to take their first lead of the game with six minutes left in the first half. The Rollers didn't enjoy the lead for long as the Riverhawks went into the locker room leading the Rollers by one point with a 38-37 lead at half. The Riverhawks were led by University of Iowa's Glen Worley with 8 points, Chicago State's Tony Weeden with 7, and Kyle Myrick added 6. The Rollers were led by Marcus Jackson with 9 points, Andre Newson with 8.
The third quarter was a tough quarter for the Riverhawks playing neck to neck with the Rollers. Both teams were intense and played great defense deadlocking the game at 51-51 at the first media timeout in the third quarter. The Riverhawks took control of the third quarter jumping out to a 67-58 lead. Weeden led the Riverhawks in third quarter with 10 points.
The fourth quarter started off quick for the Riverhawks as Worley started the fourth quarter hitting a three pointer increasing the Riverhawks lead and causing the Rollers to turn up the defensive effort to stay in the game. The Rollers tried to climb their way back into the game when Geoff Wing hit two three pointers in a row, but to no avail. The game leaders for the Riverhawks were Weeden with 19, David Bancroft and Worley both added 17 each. The leading scorers for the Rollers were Andre Newson with 25 and Marcus Jackson with 18. The Riverhawks will travel to Minnesota to play the # 5 ranked Minnesota Ripknees for the second time in 9 days on Saturday, March 17 to see who plays the winner of Detroit, Peoria or Texas.
