Nighthawks' season comes to an end
March 14, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release
On behalf of the entire Maryland Nighthawks organization, I am happy to send out this thank you letter to our supporters in appreciation for your wonderful involvement in making this season our best ever. Throughout the season, the Maryland Nighthawks organization was recognized as the premier franchise in the American Basketball Association.
The Nighthawks were featured on ESPN, NBC's Today Show, a variety of local sports channels, including Comcast Cable Communications, as well as in national publications including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Washington Times, Baltimore Sun, Sports Illustrated, amongst others. With your help, the Nighthawks received enormous amounts of support and hence were able to reach new heights in attendance, reaching their first sellout crowd in three years, breaking last year's entire season attendance record by 2,114!
As we look back at the past season, we had high expectations for our performance on the court, and we didn't meet them. Unfortunately, even with the insurmountable level of support from our fan base we were unable to make for the playoffs with a below .500 record and a 4th place finish in our division.
As we now look forward, we will continue to make monumental changes in how our team will be constructed. The staff is fully committed at improving this past season's record by increasing its effort in finding the best home grown talent as well as retaining our core group of athletes and All-Stars. We will put together an even more competitive, hungrier, and more energetic group of dedicated players, building a team that you can be proud of - a team that plays hard each and every night and, ultimately, a team that can bring a championship to Maryland.
As a proud community based organization, we are currently searching for major sponsors and plan on unveiling our season ticket plans in the upcoming weeks. With our community, staff, and supporters backing us, we are sure to accomplish our goals of increasing the value of entertainment at our games and the competitiveness of our team on the court.
The Nighthawks organization welcomes our fans' comments suggesting how we can continue to improve upon our successful third season. Please send us your comments and suggestions to mfernandes@marylandnighthawks.com.
Also, please continue to check out our website for updates on special appearances, summer camps, tryouts, exhibitions, and other special events.
Thank you for your support in joining the Nighthawks' family and making us YOUR team!
Sincerely,
Marco Fernandes
General Manager
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
