Rockford RiverHawks News Release
Ozark, MO- The Rockford RiverHawks lost 7-6 to the Springfield/Ozark Ducks. Springfield/Ozark took a 2-0 lead in the three-game series.
Springfield/Ozark scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by Steve Haake. Josh Landon scored a run on a Rich Austin error and Todd Leathers drove in a run on a RBI single making the score 3-0 after an inning.
The Ducks added two more runs on RBI singles from Tanner Townsend and Haake in the second inning making the score 5-0. Steve Booth scored a run on a wild pitch by Mica Christensen in the third inning giving the Ducks the 6-0 lead.
The RiverHawks got on the board in the fourth inning when Ben Fjelland walked with the bases loaded and Ryan Larson hit a sacrifice fly.
Haake hit a solo home run in the fourth inning giving Springfield/Ozark the 7-2 lead.
The RiverHawks rallied in the top of the eighth inning but it wasn't enough. Dan Floyd hit a RBI double and Austin got a RBI and reached on an error in the inning making the score 7-4. Rico Santana entered the game as a pinch-hitter and hit a two-run single making the score 7-6.
Jamie Bennett (4-4) got the win for Springfield/Ozark giving up two runs over six innings. Randy Vanderplow (8) picked up the save. Jason Pilkington (4-3) took the loss for the RiverHawks.
The series wraps at 7:15 tomorrow. The RiverHawks return to Marinelli Field on Thursday at 7:05 to take on the Gateway Grizzlies. Thursday night will be the return of $1 Beer Night sponsored by Miller Lite. Call (815) 964-2255 for tickets.
