Charleston RiverDogs News Release
(Charleston, SC) â The top three men in the RiverDogs lineup homered and Scott Autrey pitched seven strong innings as the RiverDogs defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 7-3 Monday in front of the largest crowd of the season at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
On Charleston County Educational Day presented by Smucker's Uncrustables and Rick Hendrick Imports, 6,739 students and teachers watched Jason Pridie, B.J. Upton and Vince Harrison go deep as the RiverDogs (25-18) took the series finale from the visiting BlueClaws (15-29).
Scott Autrey (6-1) pitched deeper into a ballgame than any RiverDog this season, allowing three runs in eight innings to pick up his sixth victory of the season.
Lakewood got on the board first when Terry Jones connected for his first homer of the season, a two-run shot in the top of the second.
Pridie countered in the third with a two-run homer off Lakewood starter Zach Segovia (1-6) that tied the game at two. Later in the frame, the league's leading hitter, John-Paul Davis, smacked an RBI double to left-center which put the RiverDogs on top 3-2.
Lakewood tied it in the fifth when Andre Marshall knocked home Casey Martinez from second with a hit.
Catcher Ronnie Deck had his first two-hit game of the season, including an RBI single with two-outs in the sixth that put Charleston ahead for good.
The RiverDogs put the game away in the seventh. Pridie led off with a double off the base of the right field wall. Upton followed with a towering homerun over the scoreboard in left, his second of the homestand and third of the season. Harrison, the next hitter, sent an almost identical shot over the left field wall for his fourth round-tripper of the year, first at Riley Park.
It was the first time this season that the RiverDogs have hit back-to-back homeruns.
Carlos Hines pitched a scoreless ninth to lower his ERA to 0.42.
Vince Harrison had three hits, finishing 7-for-16 (.438) in the four-game series. Pridie and Davis were each 7-for-16 in the series and Pridie hit .400 over the eight-game homestand.
Charleston ends its eight game homestand with a 4-4 mark as it heads to the road for eight games in six days beginning Wednesday at Capital City.
