Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - After an hour and forty-five minute rain delay before the start of Tuesday's game, the Drive (26-20) offense seemed to disappear with the inclement weather. Wearing the uniforms of their parent clubs, the Charleston RiverDogs (29-16) handled the Drive 7-1 in the series opener.
Both Greenville's Chris Province and Charleston's Zach McAllister engaged in a pitchers duel through the first three innings, as both held their opponents scoreless. Greenville, however, broke through in the bottom of the fourth, breaking a scoreless tie as Ryan Kalish led off the inning with a solo homer.
It would be the only run McAllister (6-2) and the RiverDogs would surrender. The right-hander lasted 8.0 innings, scattering six hits while fanning six. Reliever Jesse Hoover finished off the Drive with a perfect ninth inning.
After working his way through Charleston's potent lineup through the first four innings, Province (3-2) allowed single runs in the fifth and sixth before exiting after 5.2 innings. Austin Krum and Carmen Angelini each recorded an RBI-single.
The RiverDogs were able to pull away as they plated five runs off relievers Jordan Craft and Felix Ventura in the final two innings. In the eighth inning, Brian Baisley roped a double off Craft and Ventura issued back-to-back walks before Walter Ibarra extended the RiverDogs lead to five runs with a bases-clearing triple.
An inning later, Charleston was able to capitalize on two Drive errors for their final run of the game.
The Drive and RiverDogs continue their four-game series tomorrow morning with first pitch set for 11:05 AM. Southpaw Jose Alvarez will toe the rubber for Greenville as Charleston counters with right-hander Dellin Betances.
