I's Slow 'Birds Bats, 3-1 in Series Opener

Salisbury, Md.- Different location. Same story. The Kannapolis Intimidators have Delmarva's number, prevailing Tuesday night 3-1 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds have now lost all four meetings with the Intimidators dating back to last week in North Carolina.

Once again, Kannapolis got on the board early. With two down in the top of the first, Christian Marrero tripled to the gap in right-center field. The next batter, Danny Jordan, drilled a single into left field to give the Intimidators a 1-0 edge.

The Shorebirds had offensive opportunities early in the game but could not capitalize. Delmarva stranded seven runners in the first five innings and ten in the game.

Kannapolis added to their lead with two runs in the fifth off Shorebird starter Chris Salberg. In his second start of the season, both of which have come against the Intimidators, Salberg pitched well enough to win but received little offensive support from his teammates. In six innings, Salberg allowed three runs on seven hits. He also stuck out four Intimidators and did not walk anyone. Brian Parker was very steady in three innings out of the bullpen, shutting down Kannapolis while striking out five.

The Shorebirds lone run scored when Matt Tucker came home from third on a wild pitch on the seventh. That tally broke up the shutout, but also represented the only run of the game for Delmarva.

Kannapolis starter Gregory Infante was superb in his season debut, shutting the Birds down for four innings. Hector Santiago struck out four in his two innings, earning his second victory of the year, while Henry Mabee tossed the final two frames for his tenth save of the season.
