CHARLESTON- Following a four-game road trip to open the second half of the 2008 South Atlantic League (SAL) season, the Charleston RiverDogs return home for a five game homestand from June 23rd through 27th at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. It will first be the Rome Braves, an Atlanta Braves affiliate, coming to the Lowcountry for a brief two-game series from June 23-24, then the SAL-defending champion Columbus Catfish, a Tampa Bay Rays affiliate, from June 25-27.
First pitch for each contest is 7:05 p.m.
Monday, June 23rd marks another Dogs With a Cause Night presented by The Wolf 96.9 FM. On this evening, the RiverDogs partner with the Children's Miracle Network, a local non-profit organization, to generate exposure and funds for their cause. Firefighter's Night, presented by Service Master, is celebrated on this night, as well, with fund-raising activities throughout the contest and a special firefighter gear race serving as a between-inning promotion, with the winner receiving $500.
Tuesday, June 24th is another BI-LO Two for Tuesday presented by BI-LO, B 92 and The CW, with two-for-one discounts on all seats at the park. The RiverDogs are also holding What Would Chuck Norris Do? Night, by playing off the recent cult craze surrounding the famous actor and spokesman. The night also features a tough man competition and Chuck Norris pictures and fun facts.
Earlier in the day, the RiverDogs will officially open their first Baseball Camp of the season at The Joe. The camp, which runs from June 24-26 with a special hitting clinic on June 27, is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day for children ages 6-13 and is sponsored by Trident Health System and WEZL.
Columbus comes to the Holy City for a three-game set beginning Wednesday, June 25th, which is another Wild Wednesday presented by 98X. The $20 All-U-Can-Eat special in the Ashley View Pub will be at full force once again with its rotating featured items that are available until the seventh inning.
The innovative firsts continue at The Joe on this evening, as Go Back to Ohio Night is highlighted by the RiverDogs promotional crew, which celebrates the mass amount of persons who have moved to the Lowcountry from the Buckeye state. There will be an eating contest, a focus on weird Ohio and South Carolina laws, and the most outlandishly dressed Ohioan receives a one-way ticket back to his or her neck of the woods.
Thursday, June 26th, marks yet another Thirsty Thursday, presented by Market Street Saloon, 95SX, with $1 food and drink specials all evening. The RiverDogs' appreciation for nature and the Blarney Stone will be on full display as part of RiverDogs go GREEN...It's Irish Night! There will also be a scavenger hunt to uncover a pot of gold, and Irish dancers and a potato sack race will entertain between innings, as the Lowcountry becomes Erin Go Bragh for one night only.
Friday, June 27th, closes out the homestand with another Force Protection Red Shirt Friday, presented by Force Protection Industries, Inc. and WEZL. Fans who wear a red shirt to Friday night home games will receive one dollar off their ticket price at the box office, and will then have the option to donate that dollar to support service families. The RiverDogs will also wear special red jerseys on Friday home games, which will be auctioned off at the end of the season to support Charleston Area Service Men and Women.
The RiverDogs will hold their Salute to Les Robinson, as the retiring Citadel athletic director will be on hand to throw out a first pitch and be recognized by the Charleston faithful. Fans can also enjoy SC Certified Peach Night with numerous in-game promotions such as a peach eating contest and peach golf, all of which center on the fuzzy fruit.
After Friday's game, Charleston plays the Savannah Sand Gants, a New York Mets affiliate, in a four-game series that features a two-and-two format. The first two games of the series will be played at Historic Grayson Stadium on June 28-29, while the final two contests take place at The Joe from June 30-July 1.
