RiverDogs Can't Complete Rome Sweep

Charleston RiverDogs News Release
Charleston could not complete the four-game sweep of the Rome Braves, falling 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium. It would have been the first four-game road sweep for Charleston since April 28-May 1, 2006, when the team took four straight from the Kannapolis Intimidators.
The RiverDogs had runners in scoring position in four of the final six innings, but the highest scoring offense in the SAL could only muster a single run against a tremendous pitching effort from starter Steve Evarts and reliever Edgar Osuna. Evarts (1-0), a sandwich pick in the 2006 draft, gave up the lone run on four hits in five innings of work with four strikeouts.
RiverDogs' starter Adam Olbrychowski (0-1) pitched well enough to earn his first win, allowing just two runs in five innings pitched, but his offense was held scoreless over the final five innings.
Charleston broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning on a double play ground out from Jesus Montero, scoring Abraham Almonte from third. Almonte led off the inning with an infield single, then reached second base on a throwing error from second baseman Chad Lundahl on Justin Snyder's fielder's choice. Bradley Suttle followed with an infield single to load the bases, then Montero's twin killing scored Almonte to make the score 1-0.
Wady Rufino led off the fifth inning with a double down the left field line, but was stranded at third after Lundahl made a diving stop and threw out Dave Williams at first from the seat of his pants to end the RiverDogs' threat.
Rome took the lead for the first time in the game with two runs in their half of the fifth inning. Lundahl led off with a double, then advanced to third on a single from Javier Dominguez. Charleston had Dominguez picked off trying to advance to second base on the hit, but the cutoff throw from Brandon Laird to second was off the mark, allowing Lundahl to score from third and tie the game at 1-1.
With two outs, Olbrychowski's 0-2 offering to Jason Heyward was mishandled by Montero allowing Dominguez to score the go-ahead run on the passed ball and make the score 2-1.
Rome added two more runs in the seventh off Wilkins De La Rosa, after he struck out the side in the sixth inning. Heyward capped off the inning with an RBI single to increase the margin to 4-1.
Osuna was virtually untouchable over his four innings of work, giving up just three base hits while striking out eight RiverDogs to pick up his first save of the season.
For Charleston, Snyder went 3-for-4 with a double, while Suttle continued his torrid hitting, going 2-for-4 with a double.
The RiverDogs return home to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park for their home opener against the Savannah Sand Gnats Monday night. Charleston posted a 20-9 overall record against Savannah in 2007, including victories in seven of their final eight meetings of the season.
First pitch for Opening Night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
