
River Rats Announce 2008 Training Camp Roster

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today their 2008 training camp roster, consisting of 23 players as they get set to officially open practice sessions on Tuesday, September 30th at the Times Union Center.
Along with the 19 players assigned to Albany by the Carolina Hurricanes over the past week, the River Rats will have four other players on the ice for camp. Albany has invited forward Marc Cavosie and goaltender Ryan Munce to attend camp on free agent tryouts, while previously announced signings Yannick Tifu and Jonathan Paiement will also be present.
Cavosie, 27, joined the River Rats last season on February 26th and played in 16 regular season games, scoring 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) and posting a +7 plus/minus rating. The Albany, New York native, and former RPI standout, then played in all seven of the Rats 2008 Calder Cup playoff games, finishing tied for second on the team in scoring with four points (1 goal, 3 assists). Prior to joining Albany Cavosie split the 2007-08 season between two ECHL teams, scoring 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) in 24 games for the Reading Royals and 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 17 games played for the Columbia Inferno.
Munce, 23, began the 2007-08 season in the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals, including earning a 2-1 shootout victory over the River Rats in their home opener on October 13th, 2007. In ten games played for Norfolk the Mississauga, Ontario native had a 3-6-0 record with a 2.99 goals-against average and a 0.904 save percentage. Munce spent a majority of last season with the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL; going 19-16-0 in 35 appearances with a 2.82 GAA and a 0.917 save percentage.
The River Rats will have the first on-ice session of their 2008 AHL Training Camp on Tuesday, September 30th with a 10:30 am practice at the Times Union Center; it will be the first official practice under new Head Coach/General Manager Jeff Daniels. Albany will open up their preseason schedule with a home exhibition game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday, October 1st at 7:00 pm. All River Rats training camp on-ice sessions are open to the media.

The River Rats will open up the 2008-09 regular season schedule at home on Saturday, October 11th against Bridgeport with a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center. River Rats season ticket packages and individual game tickets are on sale now for Albany's 16th season of operations in the American Hockey League and their third year as the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes.
