Missouri River Otters News Release

Mike Richards scored his first professional goal as the Missouri River Otters defeated the Flint Generals 6-5 Wednesday night in a shootout at the Family Arena.

The River Otters took an early 2-0 lead as Brian Heckendorn and Mike Richards both scored their first goals of the season, with Richards' being the first in his professional career. The Generals came roaring back and took a 3-2 lead on first-period goals from Terry Marchant, Fabien Laniel, and Joe Seroski. The second period started the same way the first period ended, as Seroski fired home his second goal of the game to give Flint a 4-2 lead. But the River Otters came right back and tied the game at four on goals scored by Tyler Butler and J.P. Beilsten. Missouri took a 5-4 lead two minutes into the third period when Jim Duhart deflected a Tyler Butler shot into the net. It stayed 5-4 until late in the third period when L.P. Martin buried a great pass from Leo Thomas to send the game into the shootout tied at five. The two teams went ten rounds in the breakaway session and it was Jeff Brown's goal that gave Missouri the victory. Brenden Cuthbert made 19 saves for his fifth victory of the season while Jason Saal made 26 saves in defeat.

The River Otters host the Fort Wayne Komets Friday night at the Family Arena for the Laclede Gas St. Patrick's Day Jersey Auction. The puck drops at 7:00 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the B2 Webcast, which is located at www.riverotters.com!
