Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson and IceHogs President and General Manager Ryan Washatka announced on Wednesday that the United Hockey League club will sign Molly McMaster for Saturday's game against the Adirondack Frostbite. The club will host a press conference on Friday morning, following the club's 10 a.m. pre-game skate at the Rockford MetroCentre to introduce McMaster.

McMaster will become the first female hockey player ever to suit up and play in a game for the IceHogs. The promotion is a part of "The UHL Cross Checks Colon Cancer" Awareness Month. McMaster is a colon cancer survivor and co-founder of the Colon Club, which helps spread the awareness of the cancer. McMaster will be in the IceHogs starting lineup on Saturday night against the Frostbite and will play the game's first shift.

"Colorectal cancer is not just a 50-year-old white man's disease," said McMaster. "It can happen to anyone at any time, and I'm determined to prove that to everyone who will listen. I'm definitely looking forward to playing hockey and getting my message out to a whole new crowd!"

Diagnosed with stage II colon cancer on her 23rd birthday, McMaster has been cancer free for seven years now. McMaster, 30, will suit up for all 14 UHL teams during the month of March. Rockford will be her 11th team on the 14-city tour.

McMaster has played 11 years of amateur hockey and will join a select number of women who have played men's professional hockey. The Wilton, NY native will skate with the IceHogs during Friday and Saturday's pre-game skate as well. McMaster will also be in attendance during the IceHogs game on Friday night against the Richmond RiverDogs at the MetroCentre at 7:05 p.m.

The first 1,000 kids 12-and-under to the game on Saturday will receive a replica youth IceHogs jersey courtesy of Ameriprise Financial, WXRX-FM 104.9 and 13-TV, WREX. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
