River Otters Extend Unbeaten Streak to Nine; Defeat Mallards 2-1

December 17, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

The Missouri River Otters won their eighth straight home game, defeating the Quad City Mallards 2-1 Friday night at the Family Arena.

After a scoreless opening period, the River Otters finally got a goal in the second period. Barrie Moore played a puck to the left point, and Riku Varjamo ripped a slap shot that beat Mallards goalie Jeff Reynaert between the pads. It was Varjamo's third goal of the season.

Quad City tied the game at one halfway through the final period. Patrick Nadeau picked up a rebound in the slot and fired a backhand shot into the net for his first goal of the season. But the Otters wouldn't be denied, and they got the game-winning goal with five minutes left in the contest. Rod Sundquist sent a puck at the net from the point, and Reynaert lost track of the rebound. A goalmouth scramble ensued, and Justin Quenneville found the puck and slid it into the net to put the Otters up for good.

Jason Tapp made 20 saves for his ninth win of the season, while Reynaert made 25 saves in defeat. The River Otters host the Motor City Mechanics tomorrow night at 7:05. The puck drops at 7:05 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Webcast at www.riverotters.com.
