October 7, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

In their first action of the preseason, the River Otters lost 5-2 to the Fort Wayne Komets. Missouri played the game without most of their veterans, including Jim Montgomery, Dennis Vial, Barrie Moore, Lars Pettersen, and Charlie Blyth.

The Komets struck first, as Dustin Virag took a Sean Venedam pass three minutes into the game and beat Otters goaltender Chris Bernard. Missouri tied the game four minutes later on the power play. Chris Bell found newcomer Mat Snesrud with a nice pass, and the defenseman fired the puck behind Komets netminder Jan Chovan.

Fort Wayne scored the only two goals of the second period, coming off the sticks of Troy Brummett and Steve Rodberg.

Komets forward Tim Kreuckl extended his team's lead to 4-1 early in the final period. The Otters power play scored it's second goal of the game eight minutes later when Bob Rapoza took a Bell pass and beat Komets goalie Nick Niedert. Fort Wayne added a late tally to skate off with the 5-2 victory.

In the Otters net, Bernard made 14 saves on 16 shots and Nolan Thompson made 22 saves on 25 shots.

The game was highlighted by fights from Otters newcomers Brad MacMillan, Quinten van Horlick, and Rod Sundquist.

The Otters preseason schedule continues Saturday evening when they will take on the Richmond Riverdogs at the Roanoke Civic Center.
