River Otters Dominate Mallards 3-0; Tapp Nets Shutout

October 23, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

Led by tremendous goalkeeping by Jason Tapp and fantastic finishing from Mark Odut, the Missouri River Otters blanked the Quad City Mallards 3-0 Saturday night at the Family Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Otters got on the board in the second period. Rod Sundquist fired a puck from the point that was deflected by Barrie Moore and into the net for his second goal of the season. Ten minutes later the Otters struck again on the power play. Lars Pettersen ripped a snap shot that changed directions and went across the crease to a wide open Mark Odut. The rookie winger made no mistake, burying the puck into the back of the net to put the Otters up by two.

The Otters dominated the third period, completely shutting down the Mallards. Missouri added an insurance marker with two minutes to play to put the game on ice. Moore fired a tremendous outlet pass to Odut, who streaked up the right wing and roofed a shot past Mallards goaltender Robert Gherson. The Otters played strong defense in the period, and Tapp made a number of very strong saves to preserve the shutout. The Otters netminder made 23 saves for his first shutout of the season, and the team's first shutout in the last two years. It was also the Otters first victory against the Mallards in the last two seasons.

The Otters will host the Motor City Mechanics Sunday afternoon at 4:05, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5.
