River Otters Acquire Jeff Brown

St. Charles, MO --- The Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League have acquired defenseman Jeff Brown from the Port Huron Flags in exchange for forwards Scott Horvath and Jim Murphy. He is expected to be in the lineup Friday night in Rockford when the River Otters face off against the IceHogs.

"Jeff is a talented defenseman who will be a terrific addition to our team," said Kevin Kaminski, River Otters head coach. "He brings AHL experience to our defense and will help us in all facets of the game."

Brown, 27, was selected in the first round (22nd overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. He's played 72 games in the AHL over parts of four different seasons, including 54 games with the San Antonio Rampage in 2004-05. The 6'1'', 225-pound defenseman's most productive season came in 1999-00 when he scored seven goals and added 18 assists, amassing 107 penalty minutes in 51 games with the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Brown played Major Junior Canadian Hockey with the Sarnia Sting and the London Knights of the OHL. In his final amateur season, Brown scored 12 goals and registered 42 assists while piling up 96 penalty minutes in 63 games. He was a member of the Canadian National Team during the 1998-99 season, appearing in 12 contests.
