River Lions Blow out Express, 104-81

(WINDSOR, ON)- The Windsor Express (13-11) honoured local heroes at The WFCU Centre on Friday night, and hosted the Niagara River Lions (7-16). The River Lions got their first winning streak in franchise history, overtaking the Express, 104-81.

Brandon Robinson opened up the game with a three pointer to get the Express on the board early. From there, the Express were able to build a lead at 8, which was their highest of the game, 14-6 after the midway point of the quarter. The Express finished the first with a 22-20 advantage.

Mike Allison started the second quarter off with a jumper, and tying the score at 22 apiece. Windsor and Niagara alternated possessions until Niagara went on a run to lead by 5, 32-27. Windsor would not lead again for the remainder of the quarter. Niagara went into halftime with a 50-41 lead.

The second half of the game was off to a slow start for the Express and the River Lions. The first basket wasn't scored until the 10:17 mark by Kirk Williams Jr. Kirk also brought the score within 5, 55-50 at the 7:40 mark. Unfortunately, the Express were not able to come back, and went into the final quarter of the game trailing 77-61.

Clinton Springer-Williams and Eric Frederick each put up threes in the beginning of the fourth quarter. A few minutes later, Niagara went on a 6-0 run to extend their lead, 86-67. Niagara extended their lead by as much as 24 with 1:34 remaining in the game. Windsor fell to Niagara, 104-81.

Kirk Williams was the leading scorer for the Express, putting up 22 points, a game high. Chris Commons added 15 points of his own, followed by Brandon Robinson with 14 points.

Tony Bennett had 11 assists.

Tramar Sutherland led the River Lions in points with 17. Two players had double double performances: Mike Allison (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Sammy Zeglinski (10 points, 10 assists).

The Windsor Express will travel to Orangeville on Sunday, March 6th to take on the A's for a 3:00pm game start.

The Express are back at The WFCU Centre on Sunday, March 13th to host the Orangeville A's for a 2:00pm game start.
