Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond, Indiana - Richmond lost to River City 7-4 on Monday night snapping a five-game home-winning streak. The Roosters came from behind twice to tie the game, but the Rascals scored four runs in the last two innings to seal the win. Even with the loss, the Roosters have won seven of their last nine games.
The Rascals scored first with a base hit by Mike Madrid in the first inning that scored Anthony Slagle and gave River City a 1-0 lead. Richmond tied it up in the second when Dick Daly, Jr. tripled over the head of the center fielder to score Kevin White from second. The Rascals broke the tie in the fourth when Kirk McConnell hit solo home run to right field making it a 2-1 game.
Kevin White hit rascals' starting pitcher, Steve Brook, in the head on a line drive in the bottom of the fourth. Brook was incapacitated several minutes and was eventually taken off the field in an ambulance after a 30-minute delay. River City added another run in the fifth when Justin McKinley scored on a throwing error giving the Rascals a 3-1 lead.
The Roosters tied things up again in the seventh when Daly, Jr. hit a two-run homer to right field that scored Nate Gravley, but the Rascals took the lead again by getting three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth. Tony Calderon hit a two-run double to left, Anthony Slagle had a RBI single and Kirk McConnell scored on a error to give River City a 7-3 lead. The Roosters got a run back in the bottom of the ninth on a RBI single by Daly but that would be all Richmond would get. Chris Webb (2-1) got the win while Kris Regas (2-2) took the loss.
The Roosters (31-32) will have an off day on Tuesday before continuing the home stand with a three game series against the Mid-Missouri Mavericks on Wednesday. Mike Cervera (0-0, 4.63 ERA) will toe the mound for Richmond. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time).
