
Rivas Homers, Moundsmen Shine in Win over Storm

Lancaster, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino pitching staff allowed just one unearned run and the Sixers made the most of their six hits in a 5-1 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm. Leonardo tagged his first homer of the year for Inland Empire (7-8) and Denny Brady (1-1) tossed five strong frames and notched his first Cal League win.
Lake Elsinore (8-7), now losers of four straight, took a lead in the first against Brady when Robbie Podorsky opened the game with an infield hit moved to second on a throwing error. He later scored on a sac fly by Tirso Ornelas. The unearned run proved the lone tally for the Storm. Brady went 5.0 IP and allowed five hits with no walks five strikeouts. The Sixers took the lead in the bottom of the third against Mason Thompson (0-2) when with two outs Rivas launched a two-run shot out to right-center for a 2-1 advantage. The Sixers three runs in the fifth when Kyle Survance Jr. doubled to ope the inning Thomson walked Zane Gurwitz and Rivas to load the bags. Franklin Torres then delivered a two-run double to left for a 4-1 lead. Torres later scored on a wild pitch for the 5-1 lead. Austin Warren and Isaac Mattson each delivered two shutout frames for the 66ers out of the pen. Inland Empire had six hits, four were extra-base hits. Storm reliever Steven Wilson struck out six batters in two innings of work. The 66ers are now 3-6 versus the Storm in 2019.
