
Ripknees erase 20-point second-half deficit but fall short

St. Paul, Minn. The ABA Minnesota Ripknees scored 78 second half points, rallying to erase a 20-point halftime deficit to force a pair of ties with under two minutes to play, but were never able to claim the lead as the Detroit Panthers defeated the Ripknees 126-120 on Thursday evening at the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University-St. Paul. ABA All-Star reserve Tyrell Sledge scored 24 second half points while ABA All-Star Jamel Staten added 18 in the final two minutes. Sledge finished with 27 points, Staten with 23.
The Ripknees dominated the Panthers on the glass for the second consecutive evening, outrebounding Detroit 58-38. Johnnie Gilbert and Jaison Williams both had 13 points and 9 rebounds. Detroit's All Star selection, Katu Davis, had 37 points including 29 in the second half as well as 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Brian Woodland finished with 21 points and 5 assists.
