Quad City Riverhawks News Release

Davenport - It was a slow start for the Quad City Riverhawks (16-5) ABA Professional basketball team and the Peoria Kings (8-12). That was due to good defense on both ends of the court. The Riverhawks won the "War on 74" game, to keep the trophy in Quad Cities with a 91-88 victory.

The Kings outscored the Riverhawks in the second quarter 24-22 bringing them closer going into the locker room and making the halftime score Riverhawks 43, Kings 40. The Riverhawks shot an excellent 13 of 17 from the field in the first half to keep the score close. ABA All-Star and Drake graduate Lonnie Randolph led the Riverhawks in the first half with 12 points, and Corey Minnifield chipped in 10. Bobby Anderson led the Kings with 10 points.

The Peoria Kings defense kept them within striking distance of the Riverhawks in the second half. The Riverhawks entered the fourth quarter leading 62-59. The Riverhawks pulled away from the Kings in the fourth quarter, but fought back to within one point of the Riverhawks with a three pointer by Anderson with 1 second left on the clock. That was not enough for the Kings as the Riverhawks sealed the victory with a free throw. Minnifield led the Riverhawks with 24 points and Randolph earned another double-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Anderson had a double-double for the Kings with 29 points and 10 rebounds.

The Riverhawks next home game is February 2 against the St. Louis Stunners at the Field House Sports Complex (formerly Marycrest College) at 7:05. Chicago Bulls mascot Benny the Bull will be in attendance courtesy of Mediacom. Tickets are available by calling the Riverhawks office at 563/445-2375 and are available at the Field House Sports Complex (formerly Marycrest) prior to the game.
