Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Dunedin Blue Jays pitchers limited the Fort Myers Miracle to just three hits in a 4-0 win at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Tuesday morning.
Locked in a 0-0 duel entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the D-Jays drew first blood with a bases loaded walk. Anthony Alford reached on a single to start the frame, but was retired when Jonathan Davis hit into a force play. Davis was then also put out at second base on a Mike Reeves force play to the first baseman. With one on and two out, Miracle starter Tyler Jay surrendered a single through the right side to Emilio Guerrero and walked Dickie Joe Thon to load the bases.
After working a full count, Jay's (3-3) fastball missed low to Devon Travis and a run scored, 1-0. Jay left the game after six innings and allowing just the one run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Dunedin extended the lead to 4-0 with a three-run bottom of the fourth. John Curtiss entered the game out of the Miracle bullpen and issued a pair of walks to Davis and Reeves. Guerrero then sacrificed the base runners to second and third. Travis stepped up and laced a two-run double into left field. Derrick Loveless followed with an RBI triple into left center to bring in Travis, 4-0.
Blue Jays starter Francisco Rios went seven blank frames with two hits allowed and six strikeouts. Rios (1-1) started a three pitcher shutout. Aaron Loup tossed 0.2 innings in the eight before being spelled by Carlos Ramirez. Finishing the game for his third save, Ramirez completed the clean sheet.
