Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN- Rio Grande Valley rallied for four runs and five straight hits with two out in the bottom of the fifth inning to come from behind and beat the Edinburg Roadrunners, 6-4 at Harlingen Field Saturday night.

Down 4-2, Alex Ruiz tied the game with a double off starter Ryan Smith (3-7) to drive in Bryan Marquez and Leivi Ventura. Welinson Baez followed with a single to center to plate Ruiz with the winning run. Baez then went to second on a wild pitch, went to third on an infield single from Jacinto Cipriota, then scored the final run of the game when Edinburg shortstop Felix Molina made an errant throw in his attempt to retire Cipriota.

Wander Perez (3-1) threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief of Eddie Dennis Jr. to record the victory, and Nick Lenzendorf collected his 12th save of the season.

Baez hit his third home run of the game in the second inning for the WhiteWings (51-42).

The game was scheduled for only seven innings following a delay of more than an hour. The two teams will meet again Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. in the Roadrunners' (58-36) final home game prior to next weeks' best-of-three playoff series between the two teams.
