
Roadrunners' Streak Snapped in Harlingen

HARLNGEN, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners had their four-game win streak snapped at the hands of the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings after a 6-4 loss Saturday night at Harlingen Field in seven innings.
Leading 4-2, the Roadrunners allowed four runs in the bottom of the fifth to give the WhiteWings the lead for good.
The Roadrunners (58-37) took the early lead though in the top of the second inning. Eric Bloom and Pascual Del Real each recorded RBI singles giving Edinburg the 2-0 lead.
Welinson Baez led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run. Later in the inning, James Mays tied the game at two with an RBI single that scored Nestor Castillo.
Tim Battle got in on the action as he drove in Luis Sumoza with an RBI single in the top of the third. A fielding error in the inning allowed Felix Molina to score giving the Roadrunners the 4-2 lead.
RGV grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth with four runs on five hits. Romulo Ruiz led the way for the WhiteWings with a two-run double. Baez and Jacinto Cipriota added to the scoring with RBI singles that gave RGV the 6-4 lead.
Wander Perez (3-1) took the win for the WhiteWings after pitching two and two-third innings while allowing just three hits.
Ryan Smith (3-7) took the loss after allowing six runs in five and two-third innings with three strike outs.
Nick Lazendorf picked up his 12th save with a scoreless ninth giving RGV the 6-4 victory.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings head back to Edinburg Baseball Stadium as the Roadrunners close out their regular season home schedule. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
