San Angelo Colts News Release
Fort Worth, Texas --- Starting pitcher Demetrius Banks threw seven scoreless innings to lead the Colts to a 3-0 victory over the Fort Worth Cats Saturday night at LaGrave Field.
Banks (7-5) scattered seven hits and struck out a game-high six batters en route to the win. The veteran lefty is now 4-0 since joining the Colts in early August.
San Angelo's bullpen was also superb, as relievers Michael Hacker and Alfredo Caballero completed the team's first shutout of the year with scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Caballero struck out the side in the ninth, and collected his first save.
At the plate, the Colts scored in the first two innings and were then held scoreless the rest of the way.
In the first, catcher Salvador Paniagua hit an RBI single that scored right fielder J.J. Sherrill. Sherrill reached base on a one-out walk.
Second baseman Danny Gonzalez made it 2-0 San Angelo when he scored from third on an error by Cats' centerfielder R.J. Harris. The error also allowed Colts' centerfielder Jason Martin to advance to second after his single. Martin scored from second base on an RBI single by Sherrill.
Cats' starter Blake Parry (6-5) pitched a season-high eight innings, but suffered the loss. He allowed three runs, two earned, on 10 hits.
San Angelo and Fort Worth are now tied for third place in the United League at 50-43. This series continues Sunday with a doubleheader at LaGrave Field beginning at 5:05 p.m. Both seven-inning games can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 4:50 p.m.
