Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Spend your New Year ¬â¢s Day with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs as we play host to the Mississippi RiverKings Saturday at 7:05 pm at the CenturyTel Center! The game on the first day of 2011 will mark a special occasion in team history as we retire the jersey of #11 Jason "Soupy" Campbell, a longtime player and current General Manager for the team.
With the Mudbugs about to embark on a lengthy six-game road swing, Saturday ¬â¢s game will be your only chance to see the team play at home until January 20. Don ¬â¢t miss out on this memorable night featuring a great rivalry hockey game and the celebration of a great Mudbug!
After spending his entire seven-year professional career right here with the Mudbugs, winning two President ¬â¢s Cup Championships in the process, "Soupy" will become the fourth player in franchise history to have his number retired to the CenturyTel Center rafters. His #11 will join Dale Henry ¬â¢s #19, Trevor Buchanan ¬â¢s #27 and Jim Sprott ¬â¢s #33 as the most honored numbers in the Mudbugs ¬â¢ annals.
Playing over 400 games in purple and teal, Campbell is still the fifth-leading scorer in franchise history with 297 career points. During the team ¬â¢s third Championship run in 2001, he led the entire WPHL playoffs in scoring on his way to winning the league ¬â¢s Playoff Most Valuable Player award. From his time as a rookie in 1999 to his retirement in 2008, "Soupy" was a do-it-all player, a great teammate and fan favorite.
Don ¬â¢t miss out on this special ceremony to take place just before the opening faceoff between the Mudbugs and rival RiverKings! Saturday ¬â¢s game will also feature a post-game public skating session with "Soupy" and will be your last chance to vote on the Mudbugs 2010-11 Fan ¬â¢s Choice Charity, which will be highlighted during our January 28th home game against Fort Wayne.
