Rimmer Perfect as Swamp Rabbits Fall 3-0 in Teddy Bear Toss Game
December 5, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (10-11-2), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, fired 30 shots at goaltender Ty Rimmer in their annual Teddy Bear Toss night presented by the Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, but could not solve him nor the Norfolk Admirals (7-14-1) in a 3-0 setback on SANDLAPPER Securities Rink on Saturday.
Tommy Mele, Nick Pageau and Scott Allen each scored for the visitors, while P.J. Musico (4-3-0) made 29 stops in the loss. It was the fourth time this season the Swamp Rabbits have been blanked.
The Admirals netted their first tally of the contest on the power play when Tommy Mele collected his sixth goal of the season overall. With Scott Fleming in the box for holding, Mele took advantage at the 7:45 mark by slipping a shot through Musico's five-hole. Mele opened up space down the left side and lost possession as he entered the low slot, but the loose puck trickled under Musico for the 1-0 advantage. Gabriel Verpaelst and Charles-Olivier Roussel recorded the helpers.
Norfolk strengthened its advantage with another power-play tally at 13:30 of the second period. With Fleming in the box for hooking, Pageau buried a shot from the right point for his first goal of the season. The Admirals started the game 2-for-2 on the power play with the tally.
Allen capped the scoring just 24 seconds into the third period with his fourth goal of the season. During an odd-man rush into Greenville's zone, Steven Whitney poked the puck to Allen behind the Swamp Rabbits' defense, where he redirected a shot on target. Musico made the initial save, but his momentum forced him to slide backwards and the puck followed to cross the goal line.
During a stoppage with less than 55 seconds remaining, the Swamp Rabbits' faithful in attendance were instructed to toss their stuffed animals onto the ice for the Teddy Bear Toss event. All toys were collected and donated to Toys for Tots of the Upstate.
Greenville finished the game 0-for-8 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill. Norfolk outshot the Swamp Rabbits 32-30.
