Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Daniel Barone struck out eight and gave up just three hits on his way to the first complete game shutout of his career, leading the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 3-0 victory over the Portland Beavers before 10,154 Thursday night at PGE Park.
Barone (1-4) retired the first 13 batters he faced until Vincent Sinisi laced a one-out, fifth-inning single through the left side of the infield to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Barone's thrifty ways, however, resulted in the end to Peter Ciofrone's 27-game hitting streak. Brett Dowdy's two-out double allowed Ciofrone, who was 0-for-4 in the game, one final at-bat in the bottom of the ninth, but he flew out to the warning track in deep center for the last out of the game.
Barone, who threw 116 pitches (74 strikes), did not allow a walk and faced just two batters of the minimum for the third complete game of the season by an Albuquerque pitcher.
Andrew Beattie and Tommy Murphy hit solo home runs for the Isotopes (49-63), who have won their last three games.
Chad Reineke, who was making his home debut for the Beavers after being acquired in a trade last week, gave the Beavers (58-52) 6 1/3 strong innings and was only hurt by the pair of solo home runs. Reineke (5-10) struck out five and gave up two runs, six hits and four walks in the loss.
Dallas McPherson hit an RBI single in the eighth, drew two walks and scored a run for the Isotopes, who have a 2-0 lead in the series.
The Beavers play host to the Isotopes again Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
