Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders recorded multiple goals in every period Friday to upend the Waterloo Black Hawks 7-2 at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
A transition rebound set up the opening goal for the RoughRiders at 9:07. Charlie Curti's shot created the second chance and Andrew Oglevie broke the seal on the net from close range. A second opportunity led to the RoughRiders' second goal with 13.8 seconds before intermission. Jiri Fronk scored on a sharp-angled chance from below the left circle.
Cedar Rapids needed just 53 seconds to add to their lead in the second when Andrew Gaus put back a rebound after Erik Foley's strong move to the net. At 5:18, they stretched the lead to four when Joe Wegwerth scored in transition.
Waterloo capitalized on a power play at 16:15; the rebound theme continued when Ronnie Hein found a loose puck to flip in just after a Blake Hillman shot had been knocked down. However, a little more than two minutes later, Tyler Gernhofer lifted a shot under the crossbar after a cross-ice feed by Hugh McGing.
Just 3:44 into the third period, Gernhofer struck for his second of the game, snapping the puck in from the right circle. Erik Foley stretched the margin to its widest at 13:28, capping a two-on-one shorthanded rush.
Nick Swaney recorded the final Waterloo goal with 3:55 to play on a two-on-one chance headed the other direction.
The Hawks open a season-ending five-game home stand on Saturday against the Bloomington Thunder at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale from the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office by calling (319) 291-7680 or by visiting waterlooblackhawks.com.
