Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - Despite a game-tying rally in the ninth inning, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, were defeated by the San Antonio Missions 11-7 in 10 innings Saturday in front of 10,483 fans at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Trailing 7-6 with two outs and runners on the corners in the bottom of the ninth, Lewis Brinson tied the game with a bloop RBI double to shallow right field against Jimmy Brasoban (4-1), forcing extra innings. Brinson went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. He and Luis Marte each registered three-hit games for the RoughRiders, who outhit San Antonio 13-10.
In the 10th, the Missions (41-65 overall, 19-17 second half) uncorked a pair of two-run homers against Ryan Ledbetter (0-3) to reclaim the lead for good. Nick Schulz broke the tie, and Gabriel Quintana hit his second homer of the game to extend the lead to four. Quintana also put the Missions ahead with a three-run homer in the eighth off Luke Jackson, putting the Missions ahead 7-6.
The Riders (52-53, 14-22) got off to a great start at the plate, led by Ryan Cordell. He hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, giving the Riders a 1-0 lead. Cordell struck again with an RBI single that gave the RoughRiders a 3-1 advantage in the third. Frisco added two more runs in the fourth and a final tally in the fifth, all against Missions starter Kyle Lloyd.
The Missions struggled to figure out Riders starter Yohander Mendez, who allowed three hits and a run across five innings with six strikeouts.
Once Mendez left, however, San Antonio wasted no time attacking the Frisco bullpen. Trailing 6-1 entering the sixth, the Missions scored three runs against Jose Valdespina to close to gap to 6-4, before eventually taking the lead on Quintana's first homer in the eighth.
With the loss, Frisco dropped to a game below .500 on the year, falling below the mark for the first time all season.
The Riders clash with the Missions in the series finale Sunday at 6:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Right-handed pitcher Ariel Jurado (0-1, 3.00 ERA) is scheduled to make his second Double-A start against San Antonio righty Seth Simmons (1-2, 2.22 ERA). Fans can watch the game live throughout the region on Fox Sports Southwest, and live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network (http://milb.streamguys1.com/friscoroughriders), on the TuneIn Radio App (http://tunein.com/station/?StationId198325), and the MiLB First Pitch App (http://www.milb.com/milb/mobile/) beginning with the Dr Pepper Pregame Show at 5:30 p.m.
