Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS- The RoughRiders are in the win column for the third straight game taking the series against Tulsa by winning 5-1 on Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Both teams remained scoreless going into the fourth inning until the RoughRiders put a run on the board in the bottom half. Chris McGuiness led off by doubling down the left field line. A ground out moved McGuiness to third before he scored on a Tommy Mendonca double. Leury Garcia then hit an infield ground ball and through a weird chain of events Mendonca was tagged out allowing Garcia to reach first safely. A ground out by Guilder Rodriguez ended the inning with Frisco leading 1-0.
Tulsa tied the game at one in the top of the sixth. Corey Dickerson singled up the middle before Jimmy Cesario hit an infield single to second. Nolan Arenado then laid down a bunt which he beat out to load the bases. A sac fly by Ben Paulsen brought in the Drillers' lone run of the night. Frisco starter Barret Loux (14-1) then struck out the next two batters he faced to retire the side.
The 'Riders capitalized on a Drillers' error to start a scoring rally in the bottom half of the inning. McGuiness singled before Ryan Strausborger laid down a sac bunt to move him to second. Mendonca then stepped into the box and hit a ground ball to Drillers' shortstop Warren Schaeffer whose throwing error put RoughRiders' on the corners for Leury Garcia. Tulsa starter Joe Gardner (5-8) then walked Garcia prompting a pitching change. Tim Sexton induced a grounder to Schaeffer who threw home to keep a run from scoring. With two outs and the bases loaded, Jose Felix singled up the middle to bring two runs around to score giving Frisco a 3-1 lead. Engel Beltre then flied out to center field for the final out of the sixth.
Frisco scored two runs in the seventh and cemented the win after reliever Carlos Pimentel pitched two perfect innings giving the RoughRiders its third win in a row.
Barret Loux picks up his win number 14 pitching for seven innings allowing six hits and one run while walking none and striking out seven. Joe Gardener is tagged with his eighth loss of the season pitching for 5.1 innings allowing four hits and three runs with only one of them being earned while walking four and striking out three.
Frisco and Tulsa wrap up their three-game series on Friday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Nick Tepesch (5-2, 3.93) gets the start for the RoughRiders. He will be opposed by right-handed hurler Branon Hynick (4-2, 2.45). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 1630 KKGM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
