Riders announce award nominees

The Saskatchewan Roughrider nominees for the CFL awards were announced today. This year's nominees are: Travis Moore (Most Outstanding Player), Chris Szarka (Outstanding Canadian), Andrew Greene (Outstanding Offensive Lineman), Jackie Mitchell (Outstanding Defensive Player), Corey Holmes (Outstanding Special Teams Player) and Kenton Keith (Outstanding Rookie). All voting for the CFL Most Outstanding Player Awards is done by the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC).

TRAVIS MOORE

MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER

First nomination as Most Outstanding Player...has picked up 62 catches for 793 yards and eight touchdowns this season, despite only playing in 13 games...Moore is in his first season with the Roughriders...has been a West Division All-Star and All-Canadian three times in his career...last Roughrider to win the award was Ron Lancaster in 1976.

CHRIS SZARKA

OUTSTANDING CANADIAN

Second straight nomination as Roughriders Outstanding Canadian...has 313 rushing yards this season...has also set career high and leads the team with 12 touchdowns...last Roughrider fullback to receive the Outstanding Canadian nomination was Steve Molnar in 1977...the last Rider to win Outstanding Canadian was Ray Elgaard in 1992.

ANDREW GREENE

OUTSTANDING OFFENSIVE LINEMAN

Third nomination as Outstanding Offensive Lineman...also nominated in 2000 and 2001...was Western Division nominee in 2000...has started 16 games at right guard...has picked up Lineman-of-the-Week honours three times this season and Lineman-of-the-Months honours in July...last Roughrider offensive lineman to win award was Roger Aldag in 1988.

JACKIE MITCHELL

OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYER

First nomination as Outstanding Defensive Player...has been dominant in his fourth season for the Roughriders...has picked up 52 defensive tackles, nine special teams tackles, three quarterback sacks, and a league leading seven interceptions and two touchdowns...last Roughrider to win Outstanding Defensive Player was Jearld Baylis in 1993.

KENTON KEITH

OUTSTANDING ROOKIE

Has started eight games at running back in his rookie season...has turned heads on and off the field rushing 90 times for 684 yards and five touchdowns...has an incredible 7.6 yards per carry average...last Roughrider to win Outstanding Rookie was Vince Goldsmith in 1981.

COREY HOLMES

OUTSTANDING SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER (JOHN AGRO AWARD)

Second straight nomination as Special Teams Player...leads team with 364 punt return yards and 408 kickoff return yards in only eight games this season...Holmes won this award last season.
