Top Player Nominees Announced

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Football League today announced the team nominees for the Rogers AT&T CFL Player Awards. The team nominees were selected by 45 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC). In this ballot Five FRC representatives from each region submitted votes for each award. Voters were asked to select players from their local club whom they believed to be most deserving of each of the 6 awards (Outstanding Player, Outstanding Canadian, Outstanding Defensive Player, Outstanding Lineman, Outstanding Rookie, and Outstanding Special Teams Player (John Agro)).

  • This is Ricky Ray's first ever nomination for the Rogers AT&T CFL Player Awards.
  • Joe Fleming announced his retirement following the 2001 season only to return to action this season.
  • Dave Dickenson last played in the CFL in 2000 when he was named Calgary's Outstanding Player.

    Outstanding Canadian
  • 2nd year in a row Ben Cahoon has been named the Alouette's nominee for Outstanding Canadian.
  • 2nd time Troy Westwood has ever been selected as Winnipeg's nominee for outstanding Canadian.
  • 6th time Mike O'Shea has been nominated as a club's Outstanding Canadian (3 times with Hamilton and now 3 times with Toronto).

    Outstanding Defensive Player
  • 2nd time in 2 seasons that a linebacker, Kelly Wiltshire, has been nominated as Ottawa's Outstanding Defensive Player.

    Outstanding Lineman
  • Andrew Greene was a 3 time Rogers AT&T Lineman of the Week in 2003.

    Outstanding Rookie
  • Julian Radlein (UBC) was Hamilton's 1st Round, 3rd Overall, overall pick in the 2003 Canadian College Draft. He leads the club in touchdowns.
  • Michael Botterill (McMaster) was drafted in the 6th Round, 51st Overall, by Montreal in the 2003 Canadian College Draft.

    Outstanding Special Teams Player
  • Bashir Levingston has scored 5 special teams touchdowns this season, a Toronto club record.
  • Michael Botterill was the only defensive specialist to be nominated as his club's special teams award winner.
