Calgary Stampeders News Release

(Calgary) - In its 1st year of existence the Calgary Stampeder Football Club has teamed up with the Salvation Army to start an annual coat drive. All fans in attendance on October 19 vs the Saskatchewan Roughriders are asked to share a helping hand by bringing a jacket to the game to donate.

Stampeder linebacker Willie Fells has jumped on board as the Stampeder spokesman for this event.

"It's a great event for such a worthy cause, if everyone in attendance donates one jacket...that's over 30,000 individuals we are helping. With the winter months just around the corner this comes at a crucial time of the year for those in need" stated the Stampeder linebacker Willie Fells.

The coats that are received will be distributed amongst the following:

Men/Women who stay at the Salvation Army Booth Centre and Centre of Hope. (approximately 445 men per night)

Men who are released from the Correctional Justice system

Individuals who come to the Salvation Army in need of a winter coat

As well surplus coats will be distributed to other shelters within the city

Salvation Army volunteers will be situated at each of the gates at McMahon Stadium on October 19 to collect from those who would like to donate a jacket or two.

Game time on Sunday is 2:00 pm kick-off as this game closes out the 2003 regular season home schedule for the Stampeders.
