St. John's IceCaps News Release

NEW FACES: Forwards Alexandre Ranger and Shane Bakker were added to the IceCaps lineup late last week. Both players are signed to a 25-game Professional Tryout Contract (PTO).

POINT PARTY: Max Friberg has six points (1G, 5A) in his past eight games, including two assists on a current two game point streak. Jacob de la Rose has scored in two straight games.

TRIBUTE TO THE TROOPS: The IceCaps sported their Royal Newfoundland Regiment tribute jerseys against the Utica Comets this past weekend. The jerseys paid homage to the soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Somme at Beaumont-Hamel in 1916.

Richard Bachman stole the show on Royal Newfoundland Regiment tribute night, making 40 saves as the Utica Comets defeated the IceCaps. St. John's allowed three goals in the opening 5:16 of the game and couldn't dig out of the early hole. Bud Holloway and Jacob de la Rose scored for the home side while Eddie Pasquale stopped 26-of-28 shots in relief of Zach Fucale, who was pulled after allowing three goals on four shots. Wacey Hamilton (2G, 1A) and Carter Bancks (1G, 2A) paced the Comets.

Brendan Gaunce scored just five seconds into overtime to deny the IceCaps two points as the Utica Comets prevailed at Mile One Centre. The IceCaps led 2-1 on goals by Jacob de la Rose and Gabriel Dumont but, with just 1:28 to go in regulation, Gaunce found the back of the net to force the extra frame, where he would waste no time ending it. Eddie Pasquale started between the pipes for St. John's, stopping 26 shots in the loss. Dumont finished with a goal and an assist while de la Rose has now scored in back-to-back contests and led the club with six shots on the night.
