Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers today announced that they have signed defenseman Sean Escobedo of the ECHL's Greenville Swamp Rabbits to a professional tryout contract. He is expected to be available for tonight's 7 p.m. game against San Antonio.

Escobedo, 25, ranks third among Greenville defensemen with 16 points (1g, 15a) in 45 games. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Bayside, NY, has also played in the AHL this season, going scoreless in a pair of games with the Hartford Wolf Pack in December.

Since beginning his professional career in 2013-14, Escobedo has posted three points (1g, 2a) seven career AHL games with Bridgeport, Hartford and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Meanwhile, the undrafted Boston University product collected 50 points (10g, 40a) to go along with 128 penalty minutes in 156 total ECHL contests with Stockton and Greenville.

Tonight's game marks the third of a six-game home stand for the Checkers that will also see them play Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Thanks to a Super Bowl promotion triggered Sunday, free tickets for tonight's game are available to all who visit gocheckers.com/superbowl and enter offer code PANTHERS.
