St. John's IceCaps News Release
BLUELINE BEAST: Morgan Ellis currently sits in second place for league goal scoring among defensemen with 10.
GOING STREAKING: Captain Gabriel Dumont is on a four-game point streak (2G, 3A). Sven Andrighetto is on a three-game point streak (3G, 1A), and Max Friberg is also on a three- game point streak (1G, 2A)
EIMSKIP CHALLENGE: The IceCaps look to claim the Eimskip Port-to-Port Challenge as they face the Portland Pirates in the final two games of the four-game series. The Pirates won the first two games at Mile One Centre earlier in January.
St. John's dominated the play, outshooting the hometown Sound Tigers 40-28 in the overtime battle at the Webster Bank Arena. Max Friberg and Sven Andrighetto each notched a goal for the IceCaps, but Bridgeport netminder Jean-Francois Berube was outstanding in goal, stopping 38 shots in the Sound Tiger's victory.
The IceCaps came from behind to defeat the Devils at the Times Union Centre. Morgan Ellis sniped a rocket from the point to tie the game at one apiece. Nikita Scherbak, Charles Hudon and Sven Andrighetto added a tally each in the win. Rookie netminder Zach Fucale was solid in net stopping 24 of 26 shots in a second star performance.
SAT. JAN. 23, 2016
STJ 2 vs. STJ 1
Eddie Pasquale kicked out 32 of 33 shots as the IceCaps shaded the Devils in Albany for the series sweep. Gabriel Dumont (from Max Friberg), and Sven Andrighetto (from Charles Hudon and Michael McCarron) spotted St. John's a 2-0 lead headed into the third period. Vojtek Mozik brought the Devils to within one with a power play marker 2:25 into the final frame but that was a close as they would get.
