Hartford Wolf Pack News Release


The Wolf Pack (21-19-2-0, 44 pts., .524 pts. percentage) extended a team season-high winning streak to seven games, the club's longest since late March and early April of 2014, and jumped into fifth place in the Atlantic Division, last week by winning a pair of contests. Ken Gernander's club won its second consecutive 3-2 overtime decision Wednesday night in Albany, with Chad Nehring netting his first career pro overtime goal with 32.6 seconds left in the extra session, and Ryan Bourque chipping in a goal and an assist. Then, after inclement weather caused the postponement of the Wolf Pack's scheduled visit to Bridgeport on Saturday night, the Pack returned home to the XL Center Sunday after four straight road games, and knocked off the Portland Pirates by a score of 4-1. Luke Adam and Ryan Graves both had a goal and an assist in that victory, and Magnus Hellberg made 30 saves. Hellberg, who has been in net for all seven of Hartford's wins in the current streak, has allowed a total of only six goals on 152 shots in the last five games, a 1.18 goals-against average and a 96.1% save percentage.

This week:

The Wolf Pack head into the AHL's All-Star break with a three-game week this week, starting with a Wednesday-night visit to Wilkes-Barre to take on the Atlantic Division-leading Penguins. That game faces off at 7:05 PM, and then the Pack return to the XL Center for "Hartford Hockey Heritage Weekend" Friday and Saturday nights. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers come to town for a 7:15 tilt on Friday evening and then the St. John's IceCaps provide the opposition on Saturday night (7:00)

Wednesday, January 27 at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh) at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, 7:05 PM

- The Penguins have lost three of their last four games, but still sit atop the Atlantic Division with a record of 29-11-0-1, for 59 points and a .720 points percentage. This will be Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's first game back at home after six straight on the road.

- This is the last of three visits on the season to Wilkes-Barre for the Wolf Pack, who are 1-2-1-0 in four previous matchups in the season series. The Pack have split two prior road games in the series, falling 4-1 on October 30 and winning 3-1 December 5.

- Penguins top scorer Scott Wilson (20-14-34 in 32 GP) comes into the week leading the AHL in goals, and has 4-1-5 in the three games he has played against the Wolf Pack on the year.

Friday, January 29 vs. the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (Islanders) at the XL Center, 7:15 PM

- This night begins "Hartford Hockey Heritage Weekend", as the Wolf Pack pay tribute to over four decades of hockey history in Hartford. Fans can enjoy a Mei-Gray Group display of historic New England and Hartford Whaler hockey memorabilia, and various Hartford hockey-themed souvenir prizes will be given away throughout the weekend. The AHL's Calder Cup championship trophy will also be on display.

- The first 2,000 fans into this game will receive a free Wolf Pack trading card set, presented by Qdoba Mexican Grill.

- Fans can meet Connecticut Whale NWHL goaltender Chelsea Laden and blueliner Anya Battaglino on this night, as well as former USA Gymnast, and 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist, Carly Patterson.

- At this and every Friday-night home game this season, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers through the start of the second period.

- 7:15 PM is the new faceoff time for all Friday-night Wolf Pack home games this year.

- The AHL's two Nutmeg-State entries are neck-and-neck in the Atlantic Division entering the week, separated by just one standings point and 0.012 percentage points. The 20-19-2-1 (43 pts., .512 points percentage) Sound Tigers snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime win vs. St. John's in their last game Wednesday night.

- Bridgeport centerman James Wright, a seventh-year pro with 146 career NHL games-played to his credit, had a goal and two assists in the last matchup between the Wolf Pack and Sound Tigers, a 5-4 Hartford win January 9 at the XL Center.

- This is the sixth meeting of the year between the Wolf Pack and their Southern Connecticut rivals, and neither team has yet to win a game on the other's home rink. The Wolf Pack have taken the last two battles at the XL Center, after losing the first three games of the series in Bridgeport.

Saturday, January 30 vs. the St. John's IceCaps (Montreal) at the XL Center, 7:00 PM

- "Hartford Hockey History Weekend" continues at the XL Center this night, with former Hartford Whaler great Geoff Sanderson making a special appearance. He will be signing autographs pre-game in the XL Center atrium, starting at 5:30 PM.

- The first 2,000 fans through the doors for this game will take home a Ken Gernander OYO figurine, courtesy of Aetna.

- The Mei-Gray Group history display, memorabilia prize giveaways and the Calder Cup will all return to the XL Center for a second straight night.

- The IceCaps (19-14-6-3, 47 pts., .560 points percentage) come into the week on a 3-0-1-0 streak, and this game finishes a six-game road trip for St. John's.

- The only previous game between these two clubs this year was opening night at the XL Center October 10, and the IceCaps took that matchup, 3-1.

- St. John's veteran defenseman Morgan Ellis has 10-13-23 in 42 games on the year, good for second among AHL blueliners in goals.

Pack Tracks:

On Friday home-game nights throughout the season, fans can take advantage of the Wolf Pack's wildly popular Friday-night food and beverage discount. That means $1 hot dogs and $2 beers through the start of the second period. The next Friday home date after this Friday is February 12, when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins invade the XL Center (7:15 PM faceoff).

The Wolf Pack have 11 Sunday home games this year, and all of those will feature the Wolf Pack's "Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack". The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $35. The Wolf Pack's next Sunday home date is February 14, when the Rochester Americans visit for a 3:00 PM game.

Every Wednesday-night Wolf Pack home game in 2015-15 is a "Winning Wednesday". If the Wolf Pack win at home on a Wednesday night, fans can show their Winning Wednesday ticket at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center and receive a free ticket to the next Wolf Pack home game (some restrictions apply). The Wolf Pack's next Wednesday home outing is February 17, a 7:00 PM game vs. the Providence Bruins.
