Stockton Heat News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Heat, proudly owned by the NHL's Calgary Flames, announce that Kenny Agostino's goal that unleashed the teddy bears during Saturday's overtime win over the Manitoba Moose saw 8,231 teddy bears tossed onto the ice, a new record-high for Stockton.
This was the 11th Teddy Bear Toss in Stockton hockey history with the previous 10 events occurring while the Stockton Thunder (ECHL) called Stockton Arena home. The previous record was 5,835 bears collected back on January 22, 2011, meaning that this year the record was broken by 2,396 stuffed animals!
The count was held at the United Way of San Joaquin County on Monday, where the first crop of kids were able to go and pick out their favorite stuffed animal! The remainder of the bears will be distributed by the United Way to local charities in the Central Valley.
Stockton has also surpassed the 50,000 bears donated mark as a grand total of 53,570 bears have been thrown onto the ice, collected and distributed since the 2005-06 season.
The Heat continue their home stand looking to push their winning streak at Stockton Arena to six and seven games this week as the team hosts the Ontario Reign on Wednesday, January 27 and host the Bakersfield Condors for the final time this season on Saturday, January 30.
The first 1,000 fans on Wednesday will receive an oversized Joni Ortio trading card and on Saturday night, the first 500 kids 12-years-old and younger will receive a red Heat replica jersey.
