Richmond Kickers Represented On A-League All-League Teams
September 8, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA â (Wednesday, September 8, 2004) â The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce that defender Peter Luzak has been selected to the 2004 A-League All-League First Team, while veteran midfielder Richie Williams was picked to the second team. Chosen by the league's coaches and general managers, both players have been honored for the first time as members of the All A-League teams.
In his fifth year with the Kickers, Luzak was one of only two Kickers players to start and play every minute of every game this season. The University of Richmond graduate earned A-League Team of the Week honors for his assist in the 2-1 win over Atlanta, proving to be dangerous both offensively and defensively.
Williams joined the Kickers in 2004 for his fourth season; the first since 1995 when he lead Richmond to the "Double" with the Kickers only two championships, a USISL Premiership title and the U.S. Open Cup Championship. With eight years of experience in Major League Soccer (D.C. United, NY/NJ Metrostars), Williams helped guide D.C. United to three MLS Cup Championships (1996, 1997, 1999), as well as the "Double" in 1996 with an U.S. Open Cup title. Upon his return to Richmond this season, Williams started 28 of 30 games played, recording two goals and three assists for seven points.
"Congratulations to both players as the recognition is well-deserved," says Richmond Kickers Head Coach Leigh Cowlishaw. "Although these awards are individual in nature, it is a testimony to the great overall play of the team."
