A-League All-League Teams Announced

September 8, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release


TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced Wednesday the 2004 A-League All-League Teams as voted on by the league’s coaches and general managers.

The Montreal Impact saw the most players honored with four on the First Team, five overall. Midfielders Mauro Biello and Sandro Grande were honored along with defender Gabriel Gervais and goalkeeper Greg Sutton on the First Team. Defender Nevio Pizzolitto was selected for the Second Team.

The Portland Timbers striker tandem of Byron Alvarez and Alan Gordon were named to the First Team with midfielder Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar on the Second Team.

Five of the 22 players honored were also on last yearÂ’s All-League lists with another five who have been in the past.

Gervais was named to the First Team for the third straight year while Sutton is back for the second straight year. Alvarez and Virginia BeachÂ’s Dante Washington are also back for the second consecutive season. Alvarez was on the Second Team last year while Washington has been on the First Team twice now. Milwaukee Wave UnitedÂ’s Greg Howes was named to the Second Team for the second straight year, marking his third All-League honor with a Second Team selection in 2000 as well while with Seattle.

Biello and Rochester Raging Rhinos defender Craig Demmin were both honored for the fifth time in their career. Biello was selected from 97-99 and again in 2002 while Demmin was previously recognized from 1998-00 and 2002. BielloÂ’s 1999 honor came while playing for Rochester. Charleston Battery defender Mark Watson, who was named to the Second Team, was on the First Team in 2002. Five years after being named to the 1999 First Team as a midfielder for the defunct Jacksonville Cyclones, Atlanta Silverbacks forward Mac Cozier was honored on the Second Team.
