Gwinnett Stripers News Release

TODAY'S GAME: The fourth of a four game series and the eighth of eight meetings, the fourth of four at Alliance Bank Stadium. The Braves are 2-5 versus the SkyChiefs this season, 2-1 at Syracuse. The Braves were 5-3 vs. Syracuse last year, 2-2 at Alliance Bank Stadium. Game nine of a nine game road trip. Richmond is 4-4 on the trip. Richmond is in a stretch of 36 straight games vs. North Division clubs that runs through June 27. The Braves are 13-26 vs. the North, 8-16 on the road. Richmond is third in the South, 13 games out of first. The SkyChiefs are fifth in the North, nine games out of first. The Braves are 335-302 all-time vs. the SkyChiefs.

LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Braves hammered the SkyChiefs 11-5 Wednesday at Alliance Bank Stadium. The Braves pounded out 18 hits to pick up their third win in four games. The Braves rallied from an early 5-0 deficit and put the game away with a six run sixth inning. The Chiefs scored three runs in the first, two on a Jeff Alfaro double. Syracuse made it 5-0 with two more in the third, one on an RBI double by Chad Mottola. The Braves began their comeback with two runs in the fifth on a J.C. Boscan single and a double by Jason Bourgeois. The Braves sent 10 men to the plate in their six run sixth inning rally. Michael Rosamond smacked a two run homer. Scott Pratt tripled a run home. Kerry Robinson, in his R-Braves debut, knocked in a run with a double. Boscan knocked in his second run of the game, and the Braves scored on a wild pitch. John Barnes knocked in a run with a single in the seventh. Rosamond and James Jurries knocked in runs in the eighth. Daniel Curtis picked up the win. Chris Baker took the loss. Jurries, Barnes, Pratt, and Bourgeois all had three hits. Rosamond knocked in three runs. Anton French had three hits for the Chiefs.

THE ROSTER: Esix Snead has served nine games of a 10 game suspension handed out by the International League for his role in last Monday night's brawl. His roster spot cannot be replaced so the active roster stands at 23 (12 pitchers, two catchers, five infielders, and four outfielders with two players on the DL and one suspended). The Braves have made 70 roster moves this season and lost 174 man-games to the disabled list. Eight Braves have earned big league call-ups this season and four are currently with Atlanta (Andy Marte, Kyle Davies, Kelly Johnson, and John Foster). The other four big league call-ups were Frank Brooks, Matt Childers, Seth Greisinger, and Brayan Pena. Five current Braves have seen action in the big leagues this season. Eight Braves have been placed on the DL this season.

LOOKING FOR ROAD SUCCESS: A win tonight by the Braves would give Richmond their second road series win of the season. It would also give the Braves their first better than .500 road trip of the year.

NOTABLE NUMBERS: The Braves have won three of their last four. The 11 runs scored last night marked the third time this season the Braves scored 10 or more runs in a game. The 18 hits by the Braves last night is the second most in a game in '05 (Richmond had 20 hits in a game vs. Louisville). Esix Snead leads the league in stolen bases with 25. John Barnes is 20-53 (.377) since returning from Double-A. He has hit in seven straight games (12-28 .429). Carlos Mendez six game hitting streak ended last night. Jason Bourgeois (7-14 .500), James Jurries, (7-16 .438), Tony Pena (4-17 .235), and Scott Pratt (6-18 .333) have hits in four straight games. Jason Childers has worked three straight scoreless outings with two saves since returning from the DL. Over the last seven games Braves starting pitchers have allowed nine runs in 36.1 innings (2.23 ERA). The Braves have had three newcomers to the rotation over that stretch (Chirs Mears from the bullpen, free agent Ken Ray, and Mississippi call-up Roman Colon). Triple-A All Star pick Brayan Pena is 1 for his last 17. Michael Rosamond is 3 for his last 9.
