Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Bisons will look for the sweep as they take on the Norfolk Tides in the finale of their four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (1:05 p.m.). Last night, the Herd used a six-run 5th-inning to defeat the Tides, 7-4, for their third consecutive victory. Today, Buffalo will send LHP Billy Traber to the mound. Traber, who is coming of a loss in his last start at Indianapolis, will be making his fifth start since being called up from Double-A Akron. He will face RHP Jason Scobie, who won his last start on Saturday vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (7.0IP, 5H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 3K).

WIDENING THE GAP: With their 7-4 win last night, the Bisons are now a season-best 17 games over the .500 mark. Also, coupled with an Ottawa 4-2 loss vs. Toledo, the win gives the Bisons an eight-game lead over the second place Lynx. This time last season, Buffalo was 38-34 and in third place, 6.5 games back. The Herd did not record their 45th win until July 2nd.

HOT STREAK: Bisons' infielder Jeff Liefer is working on a seven-game hitting streak after singling home Joe Inglett in the 5th inning. During this stretch, he is hitting .417 (10-24) with two homeruns and seven RBI. He also has hit in 14 of his last 15 games (25-54, .463) and 25 of his last 28 games (44-100, .440). Liefer remains 10th in the IL with a .319 batting average.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Outfielders Ernie Young and Andy Abad are 1-2 in the International League in RBI. Abad closed the gap with his teammates last night with a two-run double in the 5th. Young, however, responded two innings later with his league-leading 18th home run of the season. Young now has 57RBI with Abad right behind him with 54 runs driven in.

SHUTING THE DOOR: Reliever Jake Robbins came in with two outs in the 9th last night to record his team-leading 13th save of the season. The Bisons pen has now converted their last eight save opportunities with Robbins earning five saves and Fernando Cabrera getting the other three. Since the beginning of May, Buffalo relievers have posted a solid 2.77ERA, allowing just 158 hits in 178.2 innings of work. The pen has also walked just 53 to 161 strikeouts.

TWO IN ONE: Outfielder Ryan Ludwick picked up a pair of hits in the Bisons big six-run 5th inning. He hit a broken-bat single to start the frame, while his line-drive single ended the rally when Andy Abad was thrown out at home. It's the second time Ludwick has had two hits in an inning for Buffalo as he homered twice in the 3rd inning on August 17, 2004 in Pawtucket.
