Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The Monarchs Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Manchester Monarchs, will host the annual Richie Ladd Memorial Golf Tournament in memory of their friend and supporter, Richie Ladd, at Candia Woods Golf Links in Candia, New Hampshire, on Monday, October 11 with proceeds benefiting the Monarchs Care Foundation.

A huge fan and Monarchs Care Foundation supporter since the team's inception into the American Hockey League in 2001, Ladd passed away on April 27, 2009 at the age of 62 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A native of Queens, New York, Ladd moved to Raymond, NH in 1974 and opened a land surveying business, RSL Layout and Design. In 2008, he joined Jones & Beach Engineers, Inc. following the acquisition of his firm by the company. Since Ladd moved to the Granite State, he was treasurer of the NH Land Surveyors Association, served two terms as a selectman for the town of Raymond, member of the Raymond Planning Board and at one time served as a building inspector.

When his children were young, Ladd was a baseball coach with the Raymond Youth Athletic Association and a strong supporter of the Pop Warner Football program. He was instrumental in the development of the football field the program played on. He is survived by his wife, Deb, seven children, Rick, Stacey, Randy, Jennifer, Ryan, Craig and Wendy, nine grandchildren, his mother, his sister and one nephew.

As an avid Monarchs fan, Ladd was an active participant at every event the team held and he was the biggest supporter of the Monarchs Care Foundation. He was always involved in the silent and live auctions for jerseys, trips, specialty packages and memorabilia. He displayed tremendous generosity through his ongoing involvement with the Monarchs Care Foundation.

Richie was also an active partner within the Monarchs family. He brought smiles to hundreds of kids' faces by designing pucks and giving them away to the youngest of fans during the Monarchs warm-ups each game. During the holidays, Ladd would volunteer to play Santa Claus and hand out candy canes to the kids on the concourse and pick up stuffed animals on the ice during the annual Teddy Bear Toss.

Not a golfer per say, Ladd never missed a golf tournament hosted by the Monarchs Care Foundation. He would come to the annual tournament in October and take pictures of all the foursomes out on the course, go get them developed and donate them to all of the golfers so they would have a keepsake from the day.

"This tournament is a great day for the team and fans to gather together and remember Richie who was an unforgettable Monarchs fan and supporter of the team since our inception in 2001," Monarchs Senior Vice President Cheryl Abbott said. "He cared for each individual person involved with this team from every fan to the staff to the players. Richie was proud to say he was a Monarchs fan and he gave back to the team and community at every event."

The Richie Ladd Memorial Golf Tournament brings together the Monarchs team and the fans. Proceeds from the event benefit the Monarchs Care Foundation and assists in the donation of merchandise, tickets and grants to the community.

"This tournament brings together two things Richie cared for immensely, the team and the fans," said Abbott. "It is an honor to celebrate him at this tournament each year."
