Bakersfield, CA. - Jordan Ribera ripped the game-winning, two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Nuts a 9-8 win over the Blaze on Monday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

The win snaps the Nuts' (5-13, 28-60) eight-game losing streak and they avoid the sweep at the hands of the Blaze (11-7, 56-32).

James Allen (L, 3-5) was trying to lock down the four-out save, but surrendered a two-out single to Mike Tauchman preceding Ribera's heroic two-out blast.

The Nuts had scored five runs in the first inning on six hits, but coughed up that lead in the fifth because of two defensive miscues leading to seven unearned runs.

Nuts starter Ben Alsup gave up a two-out double, coupled with an error in centerfield by Derek Jones, Harold Riggins scored. With two outs, Pat Valaika's defensive miscue extended the inning for Jeff Gelalich who smashed a go-ahead three-run homer. That was followed by back-to-back home runs from Sean Buckley and Sebastian Elizalde to knock Alsup out of the game.

Sean Dwyer came right back with a two-run homer in the next half inning to bring the Nuts to within one, setting up Ribera's late inning heroics.

Peter Tago pitched a perfect 2.1 innings out of the 'pen with three strikeouts. John Keck (W, 1-3) turned in a scoreless eighth frame. Rayan Gonzalez (S, 6) struck out two in a perfect ninth inning.

The Nuts open a three-game set against the Ports on Tuesday night with Matt Flemer on the mound. The Ports will send Seth Streich to the bump. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
