RHP Evan Marshall Awarded with D-Backs Monthly Honor

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today Double-A right-handed pitcher Evan Marshall (pictured right) has been named the organization's Minor League Pitcher-of-the-Month for June.

Marshall was named along with Triple-A Reno infielder Ryan Wheeler and Single-A Advanced Visalia outfielder Bobby Borchering who were named the organization's Minor League co-Player-of-the-Month for June.

Marshall, 22, was 5-for-5 in save opportunities with a 1.13 ERA (1 ER in 8.0 IP) and six strikeouts in eight games in June for the BayBears. The 2012 Southern League Mid-Season All-Star selection did not allow a run in his final seven appearances in June. Marshall enters July leading the Southern League with 18 saves. Prior to the start of the 2012 season, Marshall was ranked by MLB.com as the club's No. 10 prospect. The Sunnyvale, Calif. native was drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft from Kansas State University.

Borchering, 21, was promoted to Double-A Mobile on July 3, 2012. Borchering hit .323 (31-for-96) with 17 runs scored, seven doubles, 11 home runs and 25 RBI in 26 games in June for the Rawhide. His 11 home runs led all D-backs Minor Leaguers, good for second-best among all Single-A hitters and third-best in the Minors. His .740 slugging percentage was third and 1.159 OPS was fifth among all Minor Leaguers. Borchering entered the 2012 season ranked by Baseball America as the best power hitting prospect in the organization. The D-backs drafted Borchering in the first round (16 th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft from Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Fla.

Wheeler, 23, played for the BayBears during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Wheeler hit .442 (50-for-113) with 21 runs scored, nine doubles, 5 HR, 28 RBI and 20 multi-hit games in 26 games in June for the Aces.

Every month during the season, the D-backs Player Development staff chooses the player and pitcher most deserving of the honors based on nominations from coaches at each affiliate along with input from the Minor League coordinators.
