
Barons Finish Sweep of Stars with 5-1 Win

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons completed a three-game sweep of the Huntsville Stars with a 5-1 victory Tuesday night in front of 6,703 fans at Regions Park.
The Barons took a 1-0 lead in the third on a Jose Martinez RBI single, scoring Daniel Wagner. The lead would grow to 3-0 in the fourth on a two-run double by Wagner and 4-0 in the fifth on an Erik Morrison RBI single. All four runs were scored against Huntsville starter Kyle Heckathorn (2-9, 5.10) who also allowed eight hits and struck out six in 4.2 innings.
The Barons were led by starter Spencer Arroyo (3-0, 3.38) who won his third-straight start since coming to Birmingham. Arroyo tossed 6.0 shutout innings allowing five hits and striking out three.
The Barons came an out away from their second shutout of the series but reliever Nick McCully allowed an RBI triple in the ninth for the final winning margin of 5-1.
With the win, the Barons improved to 38-44 and 8-5 in the second half while Huntsville fell to 39-44 and 4-9 in the second half.
The Barons will head to Pensacola tomorrow to take on the Wahoos on the 4th of July. LHP Matt Wickswat (1- 5, 11.15) will take the hill for the Barons against RHP Daniel Corcino (4-4, 3.18). First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM CDT.
