Mobile BayBears News Release
The Mobile BayBears powered their way to a 6-2 win over the Mississippi Braves Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Trailing by one in the bottom of the second inning, Yazy Arbelo hit a solo home run to right, tying the game at 1-1. With the BayBears leading by just two runs in the seventh inning, Matt Davidson hit a three-run homer to give Mobile a 6-1 lead. The M-Braves would get one run back in the top of the ninth inning, but BayBears RHP Yonata Ortega retired Joe Leonard for the final out of the game. With Monday's win over the Braves, the BayBears are 8-4 against Mississippi in 2012.
Leonard's solo home run in the top of the second inning was the only hit and run allowed by Mobile starting RHP Chase Anderson. He gave up just the one run on one hit while striking out four batters, but he did not factor in the decision. RHP Kevin Munson earned the win in relief after pitching a scoreless sixth inning.
Mobile took the lead in the sixth inning when Ed Easley drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Marc Krauss. The BayBears failed to push across any more runs in the sixth inning despite having the bases loaded with one out but they scored four runs an inning later. Evan Frey led off the inning with a walk and Chris Owings followed with a base hit. Krauss drove home Frey with a RBI double to give Mobile a 3-1 lead. With two runners on and still no outs in the frame, Davidson added three more insurance runs with a three-run home run, putting the BayBears up 6-1. Davidson led Mobile offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, 3 RBI and the home run.
Mobile and Mississippi conclude the three game series on Tuesday, July 3, with first pitch in the rubber matchup set for 7:05 PM.
