Huntsville Stars News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Healthy Huntsville, the Huntsville Stars and Sterling Health will present a Healthy Chili Cook-off on Sunday, July 15th from 3:30 until 5:30 pm at Joe Davis Stadium during the Huntsville Stars' baseball game against the Birmingham Barons.
Take back the family dinner! One hundred years ago, 100% of food was organic and locally made. These days, according to the Huffington Post, over 50% of meals are eaten at restaurants where the average plate includes ingredients that travel well over 1,000 miles. Families typically eat only 3 meals per week together and each meal lasts about 20 minutes. It's time to take back the home-cooked meal and showcase some culinary skills at Huntsville's Healthy Chili Cook-off.
The Healthy Chili Cook-off offers three categories of competition: Beast (meat eaters, this is for you), Vegetarian and Kids. There is no fee to enter. Winners will be recognized on the field during the game against the Birmingham Barons and awarded a prize package. Recipes will be featured on the web. Register at http://healthychilicookoff.eventbrite.com/.
Healthy Huntsville has teamed up with Groupon Grassroots, a charitable organization that offers a new way to discover local causes, giving Huntsvillians a chance to lend a helping hand by supporting the entries of local underprivileged families. Beginning Monday, July 9th, you will be able to donate in $10 increments to cover the food costs of 10 contestants. It's an all-or-none deal: Huntsvillians must raise $500 in 7 days or else receive no funding. We can do this!
