Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
THE SKINNY
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (8-9-2) tough road weekend ended on a positive note with a 5-0 thrashing of the Bloomington PrairieThuder at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The Bees feel on Friday and Saturday night to the Missouri Mavericks in two tightly contested matches falling 5-4 and 3-2. Dan Rosen played in net Friday night while Juliano Pagliero was between the pipes on Saturday and Sunday.
In Sunday's victory Aaron Lewicki potted a pair of goals while Tomas Klempa and Ryan McLeod each chipped in three points with a goal and two assists. Juliano Pagliero was stellar in net making 27 saves on the 27 shots he saw for his second shutout of the season and first since the end of October.
The Bees are now in the midst of a four-game home stand in which they will host the Arizona Sundogs three times and the Allen Americans once. This weekend the Bees will play both games against Arizona at the Hive, a location in which the team is an impressive 4-2-1 this season. Start times for all four home games is at 7:30 p.m.
BEES NEED TO KNOW
- Nick Sucharski joined the Bees the afternoon of their Nov. 26 tilt against Missouri. It was Sucharski's first game as a pro and he scored in his first game, during his first shift, on his first touch of the puck.
- Aaron Lee continues to climb the all-time Killer Bees record lists. On Nov. 16 against Odessa Lee passed Trevor Weisgerber for eighth most points all-time by a Bee (91 points). Lee needs two goals to tie Grant Goeckner-Zoeller for sixth in goals scored, 48.
- Zak McClellan, who was named captain at the start of the season, is one shorthanded goal from tying the all-time Killer Bees record of eight.
- Third time's the charm for the Killer Bees when it comes to shootouts. After falling in their first two shootouts the Bees prevailed over Odessa on Nov. 5., then again Nov. 13 against Texas.
- The Killer Bees are two victories away from the franchise's 200th victory all-time, the Bees currently stand at 19 franchise wins in the teams eighth season of play.
- The Bees trail the Laredo Bucks seven points to five in the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup which is awarded to the team with the most points against the other.
