New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - After falling out of first place in the overall MLS standings for the first time since May 17 this past weekend, the New England Revolution looks to regain its spot at the top of the table when it hosts a crucial Eastern Conference showdown with bitter rival D.C. United on Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium. TV38 (and Cox3 in Rhode Island) will televise the game live beginning at 7:30 p.m., while radio listeners can catch the action on WRKO 680 AM.

The Revs (10-6-3, 33 pts.) will look to return to the win column following their first back-to-back losses of the MLS regular season, including a tough 4-0 setback to the resurgent San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. Meanwhile, D.C. (9-9-1, 28 pts.) has been one of the best teams in the league since late May, as the club has climbed from last place to fourth in the Eastern Conference standings by going 7-2-1 in its last 10 matches.

Wednesday night's battle will be the second of three regular-season meetings between New England and D.C. this season, and the second at Gillette Stadium. In the first meeting on May 29, Adam Cristman and Kheli Dube scored late goals to help the Revolution erase a two-goal, second-half deficit and earn a vital point against its conference foe. The two clubs will conclude the season series on Oct. 16 at RFK Stadium.

Although the Revs and United haven't met in the regular season since late May, Wednesday night will be the second meeting between the sides in eight days, as the teams squared off in a U.S. Open Cup semifinal on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at RFK Stadium. D.C. won that match, 3-1, to secure a spot in the tournament final and end the Revolution's title defense in the competition.
